In Palm Springs you can take the tram up into the San Jacinto Mountains. When you get off the tram you are at ~8600 ft of elevation. The trip up takes about 15 minutes.

There are trails leaving the facility, and one leads to the nearby Long Valley. This is where the video was shot. There was a foot of snow on the ground, though mostly packed. Still it was pretty exciting for these snow-deprived San Diego children...
