FATHERS' DAY
- 2007 |
| |
 |
A lot of father's
were watching sons play baseball.
Daughters, too, ofcourse.
A few grandfathers were watching, also, as is the
case with power-batter Peter Whitney in San Mateo. |
| |
 |
Occasionally
a father comes in handy.
Peter turned his ankle in an action-play that got
David's attention. A bit of sports medicine
was applied - aka foot massage... |
| |
.............. |
...father's know
about these things -
including fixing the shoes.
Mostly, grandfathers take pictures! |
| |
After the game,
I cruised on down to the Cupertino
area (below).(Jeez! - look how Apple has grown...)
The occasion:
The BIG Jazz Band in which Denise plays trombone
was giving a concert and Nelson and Jamie
were watching and applauding - for good reason... |
 |
The band was
really great. I closed my eyes and swooned to
favorites from my youth. Suddenly, they stopped playing - and
I had not taken a single picture. The concert was over.
So - although it's not the best thing to do -
I stole a couple of frames off of Jamie's video that he
uploaded to youtube.com. That's the pictures above...
You can hear a little sample of the song: "Mambo" as
recorded by Jamie's camera. |
|
|
|
 |
...and
here is father Nelson and the
family right after the concert
.
|
BELOW is an example
of the strange case
of The Shrinking Grandfather |
 |
| |
|
Now it's time
to talk about cameras: |
Almost exactly
seven years ago -
this little note appeared in the Family Album |
|
|
Grampaw's new
thousand dollar, 3.34 megapixel camera... |
|
...and
here is one of the very first photos - in May of 2000 |
 |
That was in Nevada
where Marshall was known as
The
Marshall of Reno |
| |
If this makes
you a little nostalgic for those
halcyon days of yore - you can click on the
collection below which was the family album
page for May 21, 2000 |
 |
| |
And here's that
camera which has taken
over 19,000 pictures. (You've suffered
with most of them!)
It has reached retirement after being
held together by Nelson's Velcro and later by
Steve's Ace Hardware battery retainer.
The last picture taken with the old thing is next.
|
 |
| |
| |
...It is a picture
of my new camera - a Father's
day gift from David, Lori, Jason and Peter
that will keep Grampaw in the pixel business
for a while longer. |
| |

|
| |
And here, dear
family, s the first picture taken
with my new camera. |
 |
Jason had just
returned from
his Hawaian trip with 25 or so classmates.
He starts his
college Freshman year very soon at USF...
and the next semester takes him to USC in LA.
|
| |
 |
David - like
Lori is getting closer to Empty
Nest Syndrome and needs some shoring up.
So his Father's Day present from the wife and the boys
is an atomic timepiece and a GPS navigator for the car.
Now - at least
- he'll know where he's going and
whether he is really scheduled to be there!
|
| |
 |
|
Grampw - still
shrinking |
| |
 |
|
...and shrinking |
| |
